Well, my spirits were dampened a bit this weekend on the allotment front.

I shall tell you why, but before I do, let me tell you that I do have a cunning plan now and the moment has passed!

There was a man strimming the next allotment down for me on Saturday.

I took a deep breath and asked if, with the aid of money or something, he could do some strimming for me.

He said that he would come and find me a bit later on, so I set about my hand hacking with the trusty shears that are still holding their own.

Half hour had passed and this guy turned up next to me. "Oh” he says “I did not realise this was your plot, it used to mine and now I am here next to you”.

Oh, lovely I thought, let’s find out why I have a hill in my allotment and see if he has ever cleared the brambles right back to the fence.

I wished that in some ways I had never asked.

He gave the plot up as for 2 years, in the rainy season, the plot had flooded. That’s why there was a hill, and that is the only place that he ever planted anything. He then said no point clearing to the back of the plot as it just floods and what’s the point in that?

I have NEVER EVER in my life wanted to stamp so bloody hard on someone’s foot. I was so jolly cross and he was not the nicest man that I have ever come across.

I was also annoyed as I had been clearing the plot by hand for almost 4 hours.

I went home and felt very robbed, cheated and like I was on a hiding to nothing.

Then I had a logical think and came up with a cunning plan….

I am now leaving 4ft of bramble at the back, constructing a hand weaved fence using dead branches etc from the allotments and then behind the fence, putting all my old earth and cuttings to try and form a man made, or Kackers made dam!

Then I will make a small gully down either side of my allotment in the vain hope that the water may be forced down there if it rains heavily.

Now I am positive again and am a bit disappointed that fence building will cause a delay, but I don’t care. I won’t give up until I have tried this. If it really floods that badly, then I shall just go back on the list and wait to see if I can get a transfer.

Do you think that my cunning plan may work?
